A new product, GRiPPiES, trusted by parents has arrived to help create safer indoor play. GRiPPiES (http://www.grippiesonline.com) are the “no-slip solution” for tights, gloves and socks. When the rubbery adhesives are applied to tights and socks, they provide traction to help avoid slips and falls on tile and hardwood floors. Iron or stick them on and GRiPPiES stay for good, even through the washing machine.

GRiPPiES can also help with a family’s efforts to keep floors cleaner and families healthier—the professional cleaning industry estimates that 85% of pollutants and dirt in our homes comes in on our shoes. The EPA “Doormat Study” measured the amount of lead dust in homes, and found that the homes where doormats were present and shoes were removed upon entering had a reduction of lead dust and other chemicals by nearly 60%. Specifically in homes where shoes were removed, there was a decrease of allergens and bacteria.

The vision for GRiPPiES started at a local children’s gym class. Yelena Mogelefsky watched while a tired and pregnant Corrie Wilder tried to explain to her crying two-and-a-half-year-old daughter that she needed to put socks on over her “fancy tights” so she wouldn’t slip. The two mothers, Mogelefsky and Wilder, set off trying to find an existing product they could use to make their daughters’ tights have a non-skid bottom.

After extensive in-store and online research, the two mothers came up with nothing. Rather than circling back on the “socks-over-the-tights” discussion, they decided to develop their own product. They thought, if we need it for our children, then other parents must need it too. Soon after, GRiPPiES was born.

“Our GRiPPiES textured, self-adhesive product uses a strong adhesive that holds up in the washer and dryer, and my favorite feature is that they can be applied while the tights or socks are on your kids’ feet. There is no guesswork as to where traction is needed the most,” explains Wilder. “And the super-thin design makes it a breeze to slip on a pair of shoes when you’re ready to go out.”
